Fact-Checking Methodology

At CEJAPIM we fact-check claims of public interest about Israel and the Greater Middle East that circulate on social media, in the media, in speeches and through messaging chains. This page explains how we choose what to fact-check, how we do it and how we assign each verdict.

1. What we fact-check

We select specific, verifiable claims (data, figures, quotes, images and videos) that are widely shared or may influence public opinion. We do not fact-check opinions, predictions or value judgements.

2. How we do it

  1. We trace the origin of the claim and keep an archived copy.
  2. We look for primary sources: official documents, statistical data, original recordings, public records.
  3. We consult specialists when the subject requires it and cross-check at least two independent sources.
  4. For images and videos, we look for their first publication (reverse search, metadata, geolocation).
  5. Where possible, we ask the person who made the claim for their version.

3. Our verdict scale

  • True: the claim is correct and is supported by verifiable sources.
  • Inaccurate: the general idea is correct, but it contains errors in figures, dates or details.
  • Missing context: the information is real, but it is presented without the necessary context and leads to a different conclusion.
  • Misleading: it mixes real elements with false or manipulated ones in order to mislead.
  • False: the claim does not stand up: the sources refute it or there is no evidence for it.

4. Transparency

Each fact-check links to all the sources consulted so that any reader can check them. We also publish ClaimReview structured data, which is used by search engines and other fact-checking organisations.

5. Independence

Fact-checks are decided and signed by the CEJAPIM editorial team. If a fact-check concerns an organisation with which CEJAPIM has a relationship, we state this in the article itself.

6. Errors and corrections

If you find an error, write to us. We will review it and, if appropriate, correct it visibly in accordance with our corrections policy.
